Marc Le Sueur Summer 1989 / Joseph Thomas Summer 2011
Marc Le Sueur has taught at the California College of the Arts for over 30 years. During the summer of 2011, I was working in the archive of the Meyer Library at CCA. One of my jobs was to organize Marc's collection of slides, from his own photographs, which he had donated to the school. I was struck by many things, but especially by the idea of Marc spending his summers in the late eighties and early nineties travelling through Europe, perhaps on vacation but also working. This way of working, two decades later, is virtually extinct.
Two slide projectors, on unsynchronized timers, move through a series of 80 slides. Those on the left were taken by Marc on his walks through Germany, Italy and France during the summer of 1989; those on the right were taken by me during walks in Oakland and San Francisco during the summer of 2011.
